Neck Exercises to Ease Tension Headaches

Neck Exercises to Ease Tension Headaches

Due to the rise in computer and cell phone usage, I am seeing more patients with forward head carriage and decreased cervical lordotic curve (necks should look like a backwards C but are instead straight) on x-ray at a younger age than ever before. It’s so important to correct now so we aren’t a generation looking at our toes by the time we hit 60-years-old!

Use the following exercises and regular chiropractic adjustments to get the head in line with the shoulders and work on the weak deep neck flexors to correct the problem.

-Do each exercise 2x/day. Do 2 sets of 5-10 reps with each exercise.

These are especially important to do if at computer desk for long hours. Try to do every hour on the hour and you will notice a decrease in neck tension and headaches.

Isometric Neck-

Push your head into your hand without moving your head. Start by placing right hand on right side of head. Push and hold for 3 seconds. Place hand on forehead and push head against hand for 3 seconds. Then go to left side and back of head.

Chin Tucks (double chins)-

Start with head over shoulders and tuck your chin to chest. Hold 3 seconds and then release and repeat.
