Healthy Snack: Acai Bowls
Do you struggle with a healthy breakfast in Altoona? I first discovered acai bowls when I was on vacation and wanted something healthy packed with superfoods to satisfy my urge for a snack. At a typical restaurant an acai bowl might run you upwards of $10/bowl but it’s really easy and considerably cheaper to do it on your own.
Here’s what you’ll need:
-1-2 bananas
-1 tablespoon hemp powder or hemp seeds. (Hemp seeds/powder provide a healthy dose of protein, omega fatty acids, fiber, antioxidants and minerals.) This can be found at any health food store or online. This bag is worth the purchase-add it to every smoothie you make too for an added bit of the above!
-Handful of granola. Pictured is a homemade variety (recipe to come soon) but you can just add your favorite granola from a store or local vendor as well.
-2 tablespoons almond (or peanut) butter.
-Acai berry packets. Pictured above is the unsweetened kind but I prefer the sweetened variety so grab that if they are available. These can be found at most supermarkets, check the frozen section! Run under warm water for a few minutes until most is unfrozen, you don’t want it too runny-just not a hard rock.
Directions:
-Mash the banana(s) on the bottom of the bowl.
-Add almond butter on top.
-Sprinkle granola and hemp.
-Pour acai berry packet over it all.
-Mix well and enjoy!
